  Welcome to Over The counter Services   We are pleased to be able to provide answers to common questions regarding a large number of different services that we provide. For some services, we have provided 'forms' (in .PDF format) that can be downloaded, printed, and then completed at your convenience.

*Acceptable forms of payment are: exact cash, Visa, Mastercard, Debit, certified cheque, money order or bank draft.

   
  How to Hire a Pay Duty Officer    
  Off-duty police officers are available for hire to provide police presence for a range of functions:

Civic or community events (Indoor/Outdoor)
Concerts
Funerals
Grand openings
Municipal activities and requirements
Private functions
School events
Sports events
Traffic control
Road construction
Parades
Festivals
Dances
Traffic Escort - Wide/oversize loads (may need to provide permit)

Film productions - Traffic control and access/perimeter security related to public safety. Police Pay Duty will also provide the timely notification to the Police Communications Centre for the timing of any special effect activities that may cause public alarm.

PROHIBITED FUNCTIONS

The following are the prohibited functions for which a pay duty officer will NOT perform:

Private policing to a premise with a permanent liquor licence approved by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to offer the sale and service of liquor, where the primary purpose of the premise is the sale of alcohol

Tactical Support Officers and/or regular pay duty officers to supervise special effects functions, explosives, pyrotechnics, tactical and firearms.


GENERAL INFORMATION

The following are terms associated when hiring a pay duty officer.

Advanced booking is required. At least one-week notice is requested.

Short notice requests will be scheduled based on officer availability. We will make our best efforts to fill all pay duty requests, but there is no guarantee.

Cancellation of pay duty assignments must be received at least 24 hours in advance. Email notification is required. ~ Cancellations received after that time, will be subject to a three-hour minimum per officer and the administrative fee.

Events must be held within the Durham Region.

Alcohol-related events require a minimum of two officers.
The number of officers required for an event will be assessed according to the nature of the pay duty.

Officers assigned will be in full uniform only (no plain clothes).

FEES

Please note: the 2017 pay duty rates are subject to change without notice.

$69.00 per officer per hour, with a three-hour minimum request.

$79.00 per Sergeant per hour, required when there is a need of four officers or greater. (Sergeant numbers increase with officer requirement).

$87.00 per Staff Sergeant per hour.

Administrative fee Of 20 per cent

$100.00 minimum (for three-hour duty) with $38.00 an hour thereafter for police cruiser, subject to availability.


PAYMENTS

Officers DO NOT accept cash at the time of the assignment.

Payment is due in full to the Durham Regional Police Service in advance of the requested duty.

Visa, MasterCard will be entered onto the "Pay Duty Request & Terms of Agreement" form

All payments are to be made payable to the Durham Regional Police Service. Cheque, certified cheque, money order, bank draft and cash.


HOURS OF OPERATION: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding statutory holidays).

* Billing address
* Telephone / Cell Phone
* Nature of the event and number of expected guest
* Location of the pay duty
* Officer/vehicles required
* Start and end time
* Site contact and cell phone

Or, contact the office to hire a pay duty officer(s).

The Pay Duty Request & Terms of Agreement form will be done through the Pay Duty Clerk.

There are no online forms.
