I was wondering if it might not be worthwhile to add a section to your web site for the reporting of “Quality of life” crimes. By that I mean crimes that by their selves may not seem worth reporting by the public, or crimes that may not require an Officer to respond initially. For example my car was rifled thru last night. It was parked in my driveway and I had forgotten to lock it. Nothing was stolen but then nothing of value was left in the vehicle. Although this crime concerns me it does not (in my estimation) require taking a uniform officer off patrol or away from more pressing business to respond to take a report either in person or via phone. However a section where the public can report this type of minor incidents may allow the DRPS to track and identify trends or areas of concern. This may allow the Police Services to allocate resources to deal with incidents or trends before they become major concerns.

Thank you for taking the time to write into the Guest Book. Our Service has looked into the online reporting system and it is something we may be hosting on the website in the future.

In the meantime, the Regional Reporting Centre was created for the reporting of incidents such as yours so our frontline patrol units can be utilized for higher priority calls. Information gathered from those reports are directed to our Crime Analysts so they can highlight emerging issues.

Our non-emergency contact number is 905-579-1520.
