|In the last 10+ years that I have resided in Durham Region I have seen it become a wonderfully multicultural environment. I'm pleased that my children are more exposed to different cultures, races and religions. That being said, it's terribly, terribly disappointing to see that the Police Services Board is comprised entirely of older, white, males. How is that representative of the region? Why are there no females, no persons of colour, no significant age variation on the Board? There had been vacancies on the Board within the last 12-18 months, during which time I was hopeful that they would take this opportunity to alter its representation composition. Sadly, this failed to occur. This is very disheartening in a region that is growing so fast and is changing so rapidly. I certainly hope that when the next vacancies occur, more thought will be given to a more diverse Board.|
Regional Council and the province of Ontario make the appointments to the Durham Regional Police Services Board. Although we have had representative from our multi cultural community in the past, there are currently no visible minorities on the board at this time.
Your concerns have been forwarded on to the Police Services Board for their information and consideration.
