Preventing crime and maintaining safe communities is everyone's responsibility. By practising the following personal and property safety tips, you can help reduce the incidents of crime and keep your community safe.
Real Estate Fraud
In Ontario, the Land Titles Assurance Fund was created to help compensate people for financial losses due to errors, omissions and real estate fraud of the land registration system. If you suspect you have been the victim, report it to your local police department as soon as possible. Speak to your lawyer or advisor and contact your local land registry office. If you apply for compensation, you must file within six months of the suspected fraud. You also must make sure you qualify for compensation.
Once you file a compensation form, you will receive a letter of confirmation and your file will be reviewed by a hearings officer, who will then determine if you have met the requirements for compensation. If approved, you should receive compensation within three months.
