|Allan W. Furlong was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1973. He is a partner in the firm of Strike Furlong Ford.|
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Furlong was employed as a Budget and Management Analyst for the Treasury Board, Province of New Brunswick. In addition to the preparation of the Provincial Budget, he was responsible for the preparation of job descriptions, the continuous monitoring of management systems, and salary negotiations with the unions.
His interest in labour and employment matters continued after graduation from law school. Mr. Furlong has been an arbitrator on numerous boards of arbitration in Ontario in both rights and interest disputes. As Counsel, he has negotiated several collective agreements in the Durham Region. Mr. Furlong has appeared as Counsel before administrative tribunals including the Labour Relations Board, Ontario Municipal Board, Workers Compensation Board, and the Canada Pensions Appeal Tribunal.
An active member of the community, Mr. Furlong has been involved with the Oshawa and District Association for Community Living, the United Way, The Durham Region Catholic School Board, The Oshawa Harbour Commission, the Oshawa Golf Club and is a Governor at UOIT. In 1987 he was elected a member of the Ontario Provincial Legislature. As MPP, he served as chair of the Select Committee of Constitutional and Intergovernmental Affairs, Chair of the Regulations and Private Bills Committee, Member of the Standing Committee on Government Agencies, The Select Committee on Education and The Cabinet Committee for Rules and Regulations.
Mr. Furlong resides in Oshawa and is married with two grown children and two grandchildren.
