Christmas Lane Nativity Event at Lakeview Park

May 06, 2010 12:33 ET

On Dec 8th & 9th from 6 p.m. -9 p.m., police volunteers and a number of community agencies held a drive thru nativity event, in one of the parking lots at Lakeview Park. This community action involved raising awareness of the Christian Faith message and collecting food for various food banks in the city.

With the help of our police volunteers and a number of volunteers from these agencies, the following results are reported:

Dec. 8 - 307 vehicles drove through, donating 500 lbs. of non-perishable food
Dec. 9 - 330 vehicles drove through, donating 900 lbs. of non-perishable food

Approximately one ton of food was collected and was distributed to 11 needy agencies on Dec. 11th & 12th.

On both nights, the vehicles were lined up on Lakeview Park Avenue from just west of the Jubilee Pavilion; west to Ritson Rd. Wait times to enter the drive thru were as long as 20 minutes.

This successful event was able to help provide many families with food throughout this holiday season. Everyone involved had a great time and would like to thank the community for their generousity.
