  2008 Food and Toy Drive

May 20, 2010 10:10 ET

The 2008 Durham Regional Police Service Food and Toy Drive is officially under way and we need your help to make this year’s drive even better than last year.

The first two weeks of the drive have been a great success, with generous donations coming in from all areas of the Region. There continues to be a demand for teens, ages 13 - 18, both boys and girls. Some great ideas for this age range are: gift cards (from local malls, movies, bookstores), sporting goods, hair accessories, make up, bath gels, cameras (with pre-paid developing), MP3 players, etc. There is also a need for items for infants.

The success of the Drive depends on our numerous sponsors. DRP would like to send out many THANKS to the following sponsors.

In order for the volunteers from the Drive to pick up the donations from the various locations throughout the region, it is essential that we have vehicles. It is through the continued support of six car dealerships in the region that we are able to operate. A very special thank you goes out to:

Fraser Ford
Marigold Ford Lincoln
Mills Pontiac Buick GMC
Ontario Motor Sales
Penski Truck Leasing
Sheridan Chevrolet Oldsmobile Cadillac

As well, without the continued support and use of Ontario Power Generation's warehouse, we could not run our Drive as successfully.

Here is a list of organizations that have contributed to the 2008 Food and Toy Drive.

Foresters Branch Motor City
Police Appreciation Dinner and Awards Night Committee
Telus
Scotiabank
Williams Communicatons
City of Oshawa
Media Group
Golding Graphics Ltd.
Boston Pizza
Great Blue Heron Charity Casino
Oshawa Kicks Soccer Club – under 10 girls

Volunteer police officers and civilians donate their time to collect toys, money and food to assist needy families in Durham Region. If you would like to help out, please bring unwrapped toys or food to any police station in Durham Region, any fire hall in Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax or Clarington and to participating stores prior to Dec. 19th, 2008.

Priority is always given to needy families in Durham Region. When the Drive has achieved this goal, it then looks to assist other organizations outside the Region that have a global mandate, such as Sick Kids Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House of Toronto. If your family is in need of food or toys this holiday season, please contact a local agency or church and they will see we get your information.
