  Conviction Registered in Distraction Thefts

In early March 2011, several elderly females reported that they were approached by an unknown female with questions about food products. While they were distracted reading a label, the female would steal the victim’s wallet.

On May 5, 2011, investigators travelled to Montreal where the suspect, 39-year-old Venera VASILE, was arrested and returned to Durham.

In August 2011, VASILE, pleaded guilty in Oshawa court to 39 charges laid by the East Division Criminal Investigation Branch.

VASLIE was sentenced to six months (concurrently) for 39 convictions of theft and credit card offences. VASILE was also put on probation for three years.
