Reminder to Lock Your Car Doors

Apr 05, 2013 15:07 ET

Durham Regional Police investigators are reminding residents in Clarington to lock their vehicle doors and remove all valuables after a rash of thefts.

The majority of vehicle entry thefts incidents occurred along Huntington Cres., Turnberry Cres., Partner Dr. and Bathgate Cres. in Courtice. The suspect(s) have smashed windows to gain entry and ransack the vehicle.

Locking the door is a simple step and often the deterrent that keeps your possessions safe from criminals who are looking for an easy entry.

Cars left parked on city streets overnight may also be more susceptible to being broken into than those in residential driveways.

Not only should you lock your car doors, but you should also lock you possessions in the trunk. Criminals are seeking any valuables left unattended and in plain view, such as electronics, sunglasses, purses, wallets and coins.

Anyone with information about the thefts or mischief incidents are asked to contact East Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1687.

Anonymous information can be sent to the Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 and tipsters may be eligible for $2,000 cash reward.
