Sep 25, 2017 14:24 ET

Officers were able to successfully end a tense situation involving an armed, distraught male in Pickering on Sunday.

On Sunday, September 24, 2017, at approximately 10:00 p.m., police were called to a residence in the area of West Shore Boulevard and Bayly Street in Pickering for a distraught male who was armed with a large knife. Officers responded to a residence to check on the well-being of the occupant. Police arrived to find an agitated male armed with a large knife. Negotiators were called out to assist with de-escalating the agitated male. This male refused to obey any instructions and after several hours of negotiations, he became increasingly agitated and threatened officers.

Our Tactical Support Unit assisted and when they approached the male, he walked toward officers and failed to obey commands to drop the knife. Officers were able to deploy a non-lethal round and deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) and he was eventually taken into custody.

The 30-year-old male from Pickering was taken to hospital for assessment. Minor injuries were sustained during the interaction with police.
