Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision in Oshawa

Oct 10, 2017 09:43 ET

A 56-year-old man sustained fatal injuries after his vehicle left the roadway and struck a parked car in a residential area in Oshawa on Monday evening.

On Monday, October 9, 2017 at approximately 8:13 pm, members of Central East Division were called to Beatrice Street East near Elderberry Drive in Oshawa for a reported motor vehicle collision involving injuries.

A 56-year-old Oshawa male was operating a 2013 Dodge Journey eastbound on Beatrice Street East with a 63-year-old female passenger. The Dodge Journey left the roadway just east of Elderberry Drive, travelling across the boulevard on the south side of Beatrice Street striking a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado parked in a driveway. The Dodge Journey continued eastbound rolling onto its roof as it came to rest in another driveway. A third vehicle that was parked in a nearby driveway was indirectly involved when it was struck by debris from this collision.

The driver and passenger of the Dodge Journey were both transported to a local hospital. The 56-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 63-year-old passenger was treated for minor injuries.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The road was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. Police believe a medical episode was a factor in the driver to losing control of his vehicle.

Any member of the public who may have witnessed this incident and has not already spoken to police is requested to contact D/Cst Tracy Gibbins of the Collision Investigation Unit at 905-579-1520 ext 5227.

Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 and tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
