Identity theft can happen to anyone. Criminals can steal your personal information from documents found in your trash or recycling bins. You can protect your privacy by properly disposing of documents that contain your vital information. Shredding of old receipts, expired insurance documents, old tax forms and other personal papers can go a long way to prevent you from becoming a victim of identity theft.
On Saturday, November 4, 2017, the Durham Regional Police Service is offering a shredding day for citizens. The bags or boxes of papers will be shredded on location by a reputable shredding company and in exchange for this free service, we are asking everyone to bring in non-perishable food items for a local food drive.
There will be officers onsite to handout information packages to the public and provide additional education regarding Fraud Prevention and Recognition.
