  Uber Driver Arrested for Sexual Assault

An Uber driver was charged with sexual assault after dropping off a customer in Courtice.

On Sunday, October 22, 2017 at approximately 4:00 a.m. members from East Division responded to a residence in the area of Prestonvale Road and Bloor Street in Courtice for a report of a sexual assault. A 24-year-old female had made arrangements with Uber to have a driver pick her up from a restaurant in Whitby and drive her home and once arriving to her destination in Courtice, she was touched inappropriately. The victim managed to get away and contacted police immediately. The victim was not physically injured.

Officers were able to identify the driver and he was arrested on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.

Police want to ensure there are no other victims. Anyone with further information is asked to contact investigators.

Rahmanuddin SAFI, age 30, of White Oaks Court in Whitby, is charged with: Sexual Assault . He was held for a bail hearing.
