With the clocks falling back and less available daylight every day, officers are launching the Do the Bright Thing campaign.
To promote pedestrian and cycling safety, the DRPS, in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation, GO Transit and the Region of Durham Traffic Department will be launching the Do the Bright Thing campaign starting next week.
On Wednesday, November 8, at 5:00 p.m., officers will be handing out LED lights to citizens getting on/off the GO Transit trains at the Ajax GO Station. They will also be handing out pamphlets and educating citizens on how pedestrians, cyclists and motorists can make it safer for everyone utilizing our roadways. With decreased daylight during the day, we encourage you to see and be seen by others. Take your eyes off your electronic devices and focus on where you're walking.
The aim of the campaign is to promote and reinforce pedestrian safety, including urging pedestrians to wear reflective clothing, refrain from texting or talking on their cell phone while crossing roadways, and to use caution when crossing the street.
