  Four Arrested for Human Trafficking Offences

Two female teens and two 22-year-old men have been arrested for human trafficking after exploiting two young females in the sex trade.

In November, 2017, an investigation was launched after two 14-year-old female victims reported to investigators that they had been forced to work in the sex trade in the Greater Toronto Area. The female victims came forward to police with concerns for their safety and wellbeing after being transported and exploited in multiple hotels by the suspects.

Yesterday, the suspects were arrested by police in the Scarborough area.

Tyvon CALLAHAN, age 22, of Church Street in Ajax, is charged with: Trafficking in Persons Under 18 Years; Advertising Another Person's Sexual Services x2; Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration Under 18 Years x3; Procuring Person Under 18 Years for Sexual Service x2; Exercise Control Over a Person Under 18 Years x2; Material Benefit From Sexual Services; Permit Person Under 18 Years on Premise for Prohibited Sexual Activity x2; Telecommunication Agreement to Commit Specific Criminal Offences with another under 18 Years; Financial Benefit Trafficking Person Under 18 Years; Invitation to Sexual Touching Under 16 Years x2; Material Benefit from Sexual Services; Possession of Controlled Substance (crystal methamphetamine) and Possess Identity Document. He was held for a bail hearing.

Shaquwone ROSE, age 22, of Dean Avenue in Oshawa, is charged with: Exercise Control Over a Person Under 18 Years; Householder Permit Prohibited Sexual Activity of Person Under 18 Years; Fail to Comply with OIC Undertaking x2; Possess Identity Document; Possess Counterfeit Mark and Possess Forged Document. He was held for a bail hearing.

A 16-year-old female of no fixed address is charged with: Trafficking in Persons Under 18 Years; Advertising Another Person's Sexual Services; Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration Under 18 Years x2; Procuring Person Under 18 Years for Sexual Service x2; Exercise Control Over a Person Under 18 Years x2; Material Benefit From Sexual Services x2; Permit Person Under 18 Years on Premise for Prohibited Sexual Activity x2; Telecommunication Agreement to Commit Specific Criminal Offences with another under 18 Years; Financial Benefit Trafficking Person Under 18 Years; Publish Child Pornography; Possess Child Pornography; Invitation to Sexual Touching x2; Possess Identity Document of Another Person and Purposely Possess Identity Information for Intention of Fraudulent Offence. She was held for a bail hearing.

A 17 year-old female from Oshawa is charged with: Possess Identity Document of Another Person x2; Possess Identity Document Knowing a Fraudulent Offence x2; Fail to Comply with OIC Undertaking x2; Possess Counterfeit Mark and Possess Forged Document. She was held for a bail hearing.

The DRPS Human Trafficking Unit is committed to investigating incidents of exploitative and /or forced sex-trade work and is committed to helping all victims and connecting them with community resources to support them. The DRPS would like to appeal to any person who may be involved in a similar situation or may know someone involved to come forward. DRPS takes these cases seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation, as well as protect the victims of this crime.

In Durham Region, the DRPS has set up a Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 4888. Police encourage the public to call this line with any information related to human trafficking.

Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or on the website at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
