  Citizen Spots a Suspected Impaired Driver in Ajax

A 33-year-old male faces numerous charges after a fast-food employee called in a suspected impaired driver in Ajax.

On Thursday, February 1, 2018, at approximately 2:35 a.m., members of West Division responded to a restaurant drive-thru in the area of Bayly Street and Monarch Avenue in Ajax for a report of a suspected impaired driver. Officers arrived and located the male and when officers attempted to arrest the suspect and a struggle ensued. The suspect resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody. The suspect and both officers received minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital and released.

Matthew HEMMINGS, age 33 of Osterhout Place in Toronto, has been charged with: Impaired Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle; Fail to Provide Blood Sample; Possession of Schedule I Substance For the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine). Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest x2; Drive While Under Suspension; Drive Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available and Novice Driver with B.A.C above Zero.

He was held for a bail hearing.
