  Male Arrested for Impaired Driving by Drug

A 33-year-old male from Oshawa has been charged with Impaired Driving by Drug after failing a sobriety test.

On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at approximately 11:20 p.m., a citizen called police to report a suspected impaired driver in the area of Olive Avenue and Grandview Street South in Oshawa. The vehicle was seen swerving dangerously on the road. Officers attended and the vehicle was being blocked from leaving the area by concerned citizens. The driver was found in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. He was placed under arrest and taken to East Division. An officer certified in Standard Field Sobriety Testing conducted the test and the accused failed.

Ian UPTON, age 33 of Bloor Street East in Oshawa, is charged with: Impaired Care and Control of Motor Vehicle by Drug; Possession of a Controlled Substance (fentanyl) and Breach of OIC Undertaking x2. He was held for a bail hearing.

UPTON was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with No Clear View to Front, for a large crack in his windshield obstructing his view, and Fail to Have Required Number of Tie Downs, for a ladder than was improperly affixed to the roof of his vehicle, a GM Safari van.
