Three Arrested for Street Level Robbery

Mar 02, 2018 10:58 ET

Quick police response led to the arrest of three young males within minutes of a street-level robbery in Whitby.

On Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at approximately 8:50 p.m. a lone 18-year-old male walking in the parking lot of a plaza on Brock Street North (north of Dryden Blvd.) was approached by three males. The suspects demanded he empty his pockets and when he refused, the males began kicking and punching him. A threat was made to stab the victim. A citizen nearby yelled at the males to stop and they took off, running northbound. Officers responded and began a search of the area.

At 9:15 p.m., Air1 spotted three males in a wooded ravine near Knotty Pine Drive. Officers attended the area and arrested two males in the ravine. The third suspect was arrested shortly thereafter at a nearby residence. The victim was not seriously injured and investigators believe this was not a random attack. Officers recovered stolen cash and a folding pocket knife.

Mehki HYMAN, age 18, of No Fixed Address and two 16-year-old males (from Oshawa and Whitby) are charged with Robbery and Weapons Dangerous. HYMAN was held for a bail hearing and the other two were released on Promises to Appear.
