  Suspect Arrested After Fleeing from Police

A suspect attempted to flee from police in a stolen van on Sunday morning in Oshawa.

On Sunday, April 15, 2018, at approximately 1:35 a.m., an officer from Central East Division spotted a van travelling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Bloor Street West near Ritson Road in Oshawa. The officer followed the vehicle in attempts to pull it over and information came that the vehicle was a stolen vehicle. The driver continued to travel at a high rate of speed in the poor driving conditions and dumped the vehicle near Oxford Street and a foot pursuit ensued near a green space.

With assistance from Air1, K-9, Tactical Support Unit and other uniformed officers, the suspect was located and arrested.

Cleveland JOHNSTON, age 46, of Cordova Road in Oshawa is charged with: Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000; Disqualified Operation of a Motor Vehicle x2; Fail To Comply With Probation Order x3 and Fail to Stop for Police. He was held for a bail hearing.
