In recognition of outstanding teamwork in the response to the fire at Fairview Lodge in Whitby.
Kudos to all members who assisted the Whitby fire department when responding to the fire at Fairview Lodge. The blaze fully engulfed one building and caused extensive damage to the other buildings on site, with 193 residents evacuated. Incident Command was called in to assist and support Whitby Fire Command. The Public Safety Unit and other Regional and Divisional staff also attended to help with the large evacuation required.
This was an excellent example of numerous community partners coming together to assist during the fire. DEMO, Durham Region EMS, Durham Region Social Services, Health, Housing and Transit, Ontario Shores, the Ministry of Health, Toronto EMS and Voyager Medical all assisted with caring for, and transporting, the patients.
Great work by everyone involved and thankfully, there were no injuries.
