Detective Constable Wayne King has been named the second annual DRPS Canine Handler of the Year for 2014.

D/Cst. King is well known for his strong work ethic and is a valuable member of the unit. With his canine partner Havoc by his side, D/Cst. King has conducted a number of significant tracks and arrests during his six years with the unit.

"This award recognizes traits including integrity, self-motivation and accountability," says Canine Unit leader D/Cst. Jim Stephenson. "These traits represent key characteristics of a good canine handler and D/Cst. King truly exemplifies them."

The Canine unit was formed in 1990 and this award is handed out annually in honour of founding member retired D/Cst. Peter Van Der Duim.
