Thanks to the efforts of DRPS officers and several other organizations, an elderly male reported missing from Whitby was safely located walking on the shore of the Beaverton Harbour.
On Wednesday January 14, 2015, at approximately 7:25 p.m., officers from Central West Division were dispatched to a missing person call in Whitby. The family of a 73-year-old male indicated he was last seen at a Whitby restaurant around noon, with plans to drive to a location in Toronto. The family indicated the male has some medical issues and could become disoriented.
Members of Toronto Police were contacted to attend the Toronto location; however the male was not there. Through the efforts of Communications/911 operators, officers were able to determine the male had driven his vehicle somewhere to the Pefferlaw area. North Division was contacted and officers attended the area, along with Kawartha Lakes OPP, in an effort to locate the male.
Just before 11 p.m., the male was located walking in the Beaverton Harbour area of Lake Simcoe and indicated he didnt know where his vehicle was. The temperature at the time was -18 Celsius. The vehicle was located about 80 feet out on the frozen lake and towed back in. The male was taken back to his residence unharmed and in good spirits.
Thanks to everyone who assisted in locating this male and re-uniting him with his family.
