DRPS was recently presented with the Community Care Award at The Youth Centre's Annual General Meeting in Ajax. Constable Dena Peden of West Division accepted the award on behalf of DRPS.
The Youth Centre is a non-profit charitable community health centre for youth and young adults living in Ajax and Pickering. It's funded by the Central East Local Health Integration Network, and provides a range of free and confidential medical information, counselling, young parent support and outreach services, as well as health and wellness programs.
Youth Outreach Worker Alisha Neubauer (pictured on the right with Cst. Peden) spoke about the ongoing support from DRPS and shared information about our service's involvement in the Colours Youth Program. The program offers a safe and social drop-in for youth ages 13 to 20 who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning. They have an opportunity to check out community resources and information and talk about issues that matter to them in a safe welcoming space.
The Community Care Award is in recognition of the years of generous support DRPS has provided to The Youth Centre which is located in Ajax.
