Youth In Policing Initiative Program Coordinator

Mar 11, 2016 11:25 ET

Alex Marsico has served as our Youth In Policing Coordinator for the last two years, undergoing numerous initiatives. He began his journey with the Youth In Policing Initiative in 2009 as a student, and was later selected as a Team Leader and Supervisor.

During his time as the YIP Coordinator, he and his team have raised over $20,000 for The Refuge in Oshawa and built over 500 backpacks to support underprivileged families and assist children as they transition into school.
He has supported more than 250 participants at the Youth In Policing Initiative and worked alongside reputable community partners.

Alex's efforts are exemplary of the leadership and generosity YIPI was founded upon and we are extremely thankful for his contributions to the program and community. As Alex transitions into a new stage of his life at the Town of Ajax, we welcome our newest Summer YIP Coordinator, Jessica-Lee Bender. Jessica-Lee has been with the Youth In Policing Initiative as a student since 2011, and has since then adopted the role of Team Leader, Supervisor for the After School and Summer Initiative and lastly as a Co-op student where she developed a Manual for YIPI, and a proposal for the coordinator position.

As the Summer Coordinator, she has plans of pursuing annual initiatives like the Junior Camp and Anniversary Event, as well as potentially introducing new initiatives like a Breakfast Club. She is thrilled about her new position and to make a positive change in the community and in the lives of YIP participants, just as Alex Marsico did before her.
