Service Excellence

Civilian Member Honoured by Canadian Heritage Foundation

Jul 22, 2016 13:11 ET

The Italian community recently demonstrated their appreciation for police services across the GTA. Among those honoured with the inaugural "Beyond the Call Award for Exemplary Service" was DRPS civilian member John Porco of Fleet Services. The award was presented to John by the Canadian Heritage Foundation at a celebration recognizing members from police services including Durham, Toronto, York and Peel.

The Award recognizes front line officers and civilian members who have gone above and beyond the requirements of their day-to-day duties to provide outstanding support to those in need of assistance. Many have also demonstrated acts of bravery and sacrifice, and recognize the importance of celebrating our pluralistic society.

The Award is presented to members of Italian descent who have demonstrated a measurable contribution to the Italian community. It is the intention of the foundation to expand the award to other police services and first responders in future years.

The foundation says thanks to the contributions of members of police services, both civilian and sworn, Ontario is one of the safest and greatest provinces in the world to live in.
