Air1 and K-9 Join Forces To Arrest Fleeing Suspect

Sep 20, 2016 14:19 ET

Air1 and K-9 coordinated their efforts in arresting a 22-year-old driver who fled from police at a RIDE checkpoint in Newcastle.

On Friday, September 16, 2016, at approximately 10:40 p.m., officers in East Division set up a RIDE line on King Avenue in Newcastle when a silver Mitsubishi drove through without stopping. An officer pursued the car northbound on Mill Street then onto Concession Road 3 before discontinuing the pursuit in the interest of public safety.

Air1 located the abandoned car on the Darlington-Clarke Townline and officers set up a perimeter in the area. The DRPS K-9 Unit, PSD Vegas, tracked the driver through heavily -wooded terrain and located him on an ATV trail approximately 2.5 kilometres away from the abandoned car. The driver was arrested without further incident and charged with Dangerous Driving and Fail to Stop for Police.

Great work by K-9 Vegas, his partner D/Cst. Armstrong and Air1!
