D/Cst. Dickson Named K-9 Handler of the Year

Feb 27, 2017 10:42 ET

Detective Constable Jason Dickson has been named the DRPS Canine Handler of the Year for 2016.

For the first time in the award's five year history, the team of K-9 members voted on their choice for the Handler of the year. In 2016 D/Cst. Dickson took part in two significant tracks with PSD Brock. The first involved locating an 87-year old woman in a wooded area. She had dementia and had broken her ankle. The second involved locating a woman who was intoxicated by drugs and had walked out into Lake Ontario.

D/Cst. Dickson was grateful for the honour, but insisted the DRPS K-9 team is a family and any one of the members would have done the same under the circumstances. He says the unit's successes are a team effort.

The Canine unit was formed in 1990 and this award is handed out annually in honour of founding member retired D/Cst. Peter Van Der Duim.
