DRP Officer Rides Across Canada for Kids

Sep 13, 2007 13:24 ET

It’s been a ride full of ups and downs, literally, for Cst. Jamie Pogson who biked from the mountains of British Columbia, through the flat lands of Saskatchewan to the rolling hills of Ontario to raise money for the Children’s Wish Foundation.

Jamie joined members of the Big White Fire Department in Kelowna, BC for the 4,000 kilometre ride, which started on May 1. The cyclists rode approximately six to eight hours a day, with one day of rest a week. Jamie is a Collision Reconstructionist with the DRPS Traffic Services Branch.

The cyclists had a police escort for the final leg of their journey on May 25 as they rode into the Children’s Wish Foundation Headquarters in Ajax. So far the riders have raised over $30,000 for the foundation.

“This has been an experience of a lifetime,” said Cst. Pogson. “I’m happy I was able to rise to this challenge but, more importantly, I’m proud to have raised awareness for the Children’s Wish Foundation.”

The riders will be making one more stop before hanging up their helmets; a ceremony will be held at Queen’s Park on May 31 at 11:30 a.m.

Donations are still being accepted for the ride. Visit for more information.

Congratulations to Jamie and his fellow riders!
