It is with great sadness that the DRPS announces the passing of Bert Dejeet, a member of the Durham Regional Police Services Board, on June 26, after a brief illness. Bert was Vice-Chair of the Durham Regional Police Services Board and formerly Dean of Justice Studies at Durham College.
“Bert was a great leader in the community and the classroom,” said DRPSB Chair Terry Clayton. “His presence will be missed on the Police Services Board and throughout the Service.”
His community involvement has been extensive including work with the John Howard Society, Scouts Canada and Kiwanis International. In addition, he was a former chair of the Scugog Hydro Commission and Big Brothers of Oshawa/ Whitby.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, June 28 at the Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King W., Oshawa from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m.
The memorial service is on Friday, June 29 at Durham College, Market Place Cafeteria beginning at 10:30 a.m.
DRPS wants to express its condolences to Bert’s family, friends and colleagues, especially to his wife, Liesje, and their four children.
