Two members of the Durham Regional Police Service have been appointed to the prestigious Order of Merit of Police Forces.
Deputy Chief Chuck Mercier and Superintendent Bob Chapman will receive their medals from Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean at Rideau Hall in Ottawa May 22.
The Deputy Chief and Supt. are the fourth and fifth members to receive the recognition in DRPS. Retired Chief Kevin McAlpine, retired Deputy Chief Rod Piukkala and Inspector Charlie Green have also been awarded the Order of Merit.
Deputy Chief Mercier is being honoured for his involvement with youth in our community, his work with Special Olympics and his contributions as a senior officer with DRPS. Superintendent Chapman had dedicated years of service with both the Canadian Forces and policing.
The Order of Merit of Police Forces honours officers and civilians for "exceptional merit, contributions to policing and community development."
The Order of Merit has three levels: Commander, Officer and Member. Both will receive the Member of Merit Award.
