Deputy Chief Elected Vice President of OACP

Jun 20, 2008 12:56 ET

Police leaders from across Ontario met in Niagara Falls as the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) hosted its 57th Annual Conference.

The meeting was attended by Chief Mike Ewles who extended congratulations to DRP Deputy Chief Chuck Mercier. The Deputy was re-elected as Vice President of the OACP for another year.

The police leaders also passed a number of resolutions addressing some of the most critical issues impacting policing in Ontario.

Some of the resolutions include:

-Amendments to the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario regarding increased fines and a Keg Registry System to address the impact of keg parties on communities.

-The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act, which addresses the public disorder and neighbourhood deterioration caused by illicit drug houses.

-Peacekeeping at Aboriginal protests.

-Crime prevention training.

-Funding for a Bear Technician Program (adequately funding for the province’s Bear Technician Program in order to free up police resources in northern Ontario).

Members of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police serve their communities as the senior police leaders in municipal, regional, provincial, national, and First Nations police services across Ontario.

Congratulations to Deputy Mercier on his re-election.
