  Safety Patrollers Attend Training Camp

Jul 17, 2008 13:57 ET

More than a hundred children from across the province have gathered at Camp Samac in Oshawa for the 39th annual School Safety Patrol Officers’ Training Camp.

Durham Regional Police is joining more than three-dozen police officers from across the GTA in training the students to become leaders in safety at their schools.

The annual event is organized by CAA Central Ontario. It offers kids from ages 9 to 12 an opportunity to learn skills such as first aid, school bus safety, team building, road safety and the use of a fire extinguisher. The students will head back to school well equipped to carry out their duties as safety patrollers.

The camp wraps up on Friday with a barbeque lunch and a presentation of patrollers of the year for Southern Ontario.
