  DRP Reminds Community about Summer Safety Tips

With the temperatures soaring across southern Ontario, the DRP would like to remind everyone to be vigilant with their summer safety precautions. Toronto has an estimated 38 deaths a year from extreme heat.

Remember these important tips during the hot weather:

  • Never leave children, elderly people or pets unattended in vehicles, regardless of how quick you think you’ll be. Temperatures can soar inside vehicles in a matter of minutes.

  • Try to avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day. Run errands, workout or garden either early in the morning or late in the day. When performing outdoor activities make sure to take frequent breaks.

  • Remember to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol and caffeine.

  • You should always wear sunscreen and a hat for extra protection. Don’t forget to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from UVA and UVB rays.

  • If you don’t have air conditioning, visit places that do. Go to a movie, out for dinner or go to the mall.
