The Durham Regional Police Service is urging all motorists and pedestrians to "think safety" this long holiday weekend.
Last year , the Labour Day weekend was one of the deadliest weekends in Ontario's history as 13 people were killed in nine vehicle collisions across the province. As motorists make their way from the GTA to cottage country and back, they are encouraged to slow down, obey the rules of the road and be patient. Higher volumes of traffic mean slower speeds, so please expect this as you travel north.
The DRPS will have officers patrolling key highways in Durham Region to help remind motorists that speeding will not be tolerated.
Have a safe and enjoyable long weekend!
