Oct 10, 2002 07:44 ET

Durham Regional Police Tactical Officers have proven once again they are among the elite in the Province.

At a competition in Toronto on October 9, the DRPS team placed third in the Tactical Division among 8 different police teams from Ontario and the United States. The International Tactical EMS Association hosted the competition, which is part of the four-day Tactical EMS 2002 Conference and Exposition. The event was jointly sponsored by Toronto EMS and the R.C.M.P. EMS and competitions took place at Exhibition Place in Toronto.

The Durham Team competed in a variety of emergency simulations. One involved rescuing injured parties with a sniper nearby in a tower and another involved a dynamic entry into a building to arrest some individuals. The four-person Durham team received 305 out of a possible 400 points in the competition, just six points behind the first place team from the R.C.M.P.
