  Durham Regional Police Appoints Chief for A Day

Ten-year-old Nicholas McLaughlin of Oshawa has been chosen as this year’s Police Chief for a Day after a volunteer committee selected his essay on Friday October 3rd, 2008.

Nicholas is a Grade 5 student from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School in Oshawa. He will be picked up from his school in a police cruiser and sworn in as Chief for a Day on Monday October 20th, 2008 at police headquarters in Whitby at 9:30 a.m. His ceremonial duties will include a tour of the building and an introduction to various police units.

Nicholas will receive a Durham Regional Police Chief’s uniform and a gift pack from the police service. On October 23rd 2008 Nicholas will attend the sixth annual Police Appreciation Dinner and Awards Night (PADAN), at Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Hall in Ajax, where he will read his winning essay.

Members of the Media are invited to attend Headquarters on October 20th, 2008 to cover Chief for a Day activities.
