A total of 132 people have now been charged with various drinking and driving offences after Week 6 of the DRPS Festive R.I.D.E. program. Here are the totals from Week 6:
893 - vehicles were stopped by R.I.D.E.
60 - people were given Roadside Breath Tests
10 - people received “12 hour Suspensions” for registering a “WARN”
7 - people were arrested and charged with Drinking and Driving offences
0 - Arrest for Drug Possession
3 - Non-alcohol related Criminal Code charges
5 - G1/2 License Holder Breach of No Alcohol Condition
15 - other Highway Traffic Act charges

A total of 132 persons have now been charged in this year’s Festive R.I.D.E. That’s 27 more persons charged with drinking and driving offences than this time last year. The total number of persons charged with a drinking and driving offence after last year’s Festive R.I.D.E. campaign concluded was 113.
On Sunday Dec 28th, 2008 a concerned citizen called in regarding an impaired driver operating a silver vehicle in Oshawa. Officers located the vehicle stuck in a snowbank near the corner of Stevenson Road South and Montcalm Avenue. The driver of the vehicle, a 19 year old Oshawa male, fled the scene on foot. The DRPS K9 unit tracked the suspect through numerous backyards before finding the male hiding submerged in a hot tub on the rear deck of a residence. Byron LOTT, age 19 of Cabot Street in Oshawa is facing numerous charges, including Impaired Operation, Exceed .08 mg and Fail to Remain.
