DRP Member Designated Emergency Number Professional

Jan 23, 2009 14:50 ET

Congratulations to Durham Regional Police Communications /9-1-1 Technical Services Manager Theresa Virgin, who recently achieved the designation of Emergency Number Professional (ENP).

This is an international designation that requires the individual to meet a standard based on three areas of focus in Communications/9-1-1: technical experience, education and professional development. The designation is facilitated by the National Emergency Number Association (NENA).

In addition to the three focus areas, the certification components include telecommunications operations, knowledge of information systems, knowledge of legislation both for technical components and for management and knowledge of organization management and employee management. In addition to her experience in the field, Theresa prepared for several months and completed a three hour extensive exam.

The designation demonstrates that Theresa has mastered the comprehensive knowledge base required for emergency number program management and will help to raise standards and increase the respect and prestige of those involved in 9-1-1. It also confirms her commitment to the 9-1-1 profession by demonstrating herself as a leader in public safety.

As of this month, only 14 people have achieved this designation in Canada. DRPS congratulates Theresa on this honour and she is commended for her great work.
