May 11, 2009 15:37 ET

Police Week officially got underway this afternoon at the Oshawa Centre. Durham Regional Police Chief Mike Ewles joined members of the DRPS, O.P.P. and R.C.M.P. at a ribbon cutting ceremony of the public education booths and displays at Centre Court.

Members of the community are invited to attend and speak to Durham Regional Police Officers and volunteers throughout the week. Come out and get an up-close look at police vehicles, counterfeit currency and various police units.

Informative displays include information about crime prevention, personal safety, Crime Stoppers, Kids’ Safety Village, the K-9 Unit, Road Watch and much more.

Police Week in Ontario is an annual event dedicated to increasing crime prevention awareness and recognition of policing services. In Durham, Police week runs from May 11 to 14, 2009.
