May 15, 2009 12:33 ET

DRPS Constable Keith Richards was recently awarded with the Durham Champions Against Homophobia & Transphobia Award by PFLAG Canada.

Richards, who was one of four people nominated, was presented with this award at Club 717 in Oshawa. PFLAG created this event to acknowledge and recognize their many supporters within the community.

“This award presents an excellent opportunity for our service to build upon our success,” says Constable Richards. “As a service we will continue to foster relationships with our GLBT community, both internally and in the public.”

Along with the award ceremony, there was also a silent auction with proceeds going to PFLAG Canada Durham and the AIDS Committee of Durham.

PFLAG is a national organization that assists the parents, families and friends of lesbians and gays who are dealing with issues regarding sexual orientation and gender identity.
