Jun 15, 2009 12:45 ET

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) and the Durham Elder Abuse Network (DEAN) held an event on June 15 to spread awareness about elder abuse in the community. The event, held at 18 Division in Whitby, was attended by community service providers and the media.

DRPS Senior Support Coordinator Sergeant John Keating and DEAN Chairperson Tammy Rankin spoke to guests about elder abuse, covering topics like the different types of abuse, the crimes associated with elder abuse and police commitment to the senior members of our community. A video presentation of “Cover Me With Silence” was shown prior to the event’s conclusion.
