Emergency Personnel Compete for a Cause

Jul 03, 2009 10:06 ET

Canadian Blood Services began its annual Sirens for Life program at clinics all across Central Ontario on July 1.

The challenge, which runs until August 31, calls fire, police and EMS personnel and their families out for a friendly competition to see who can donate the most blood over the season.

With people’s busy schedules, summer can be a difficult time to collect donations. The Sirens for Life program is an effective way to encourage participation during the summer when it is most needed.

The official launch of Sirens for Life is July 8 at 10:00 a.m. at the new permanent Oshawa clinic, located at 1600 Harmony Rd N. on the southwest corner of Taunton and Harmony. OneMatch will also be on-site to do buccal swabs for the Unrelated Bone Marrow Registry.

For more information on clinic locations, donor eligibility information or to book an appointment, please call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283). Information on blood donation is also available online at the Canadian Blood Services website.
