Chief Mike Ewles is attending the 40th annual School Safety Officers’ Training Camp on behalf of DRPS on July 22 at Camp Samac in Oshawa.
The annual event, organized by CAA South Central Ontario, partners more than 55 police services including Durham Regional Police, as well as teachers, school boards, parents, volunteers to teach the 141 patrollers-in-training about becoming leaders in safety at their schools.
Over the course of the four days, students learn about bus, road and fire safety through team building exercises.
There are more than 25,000 student volunteers across the province participating in the program that ensures children travel to and from school safely.
