  In the Zone Gets Results

Sep 14, 2009 14:34 ET

Durham Regional Police issued close to 4,000 tickets to drivers during operation In the Zone.

In the Zone targeted traffic violators in elementary and high school safety zones. Between Monday and Friday of last week, drivers across Durham Region were ticketed for violations including speeding, stop sign offences and document related offences. Fines are increased and speed limits are decreased in these areas to ensure the safety of children entering and leaving schools.

During last week’s blitz, one driver was ticketed by officers from 19 Division (Ajax/Pickering) for speeding and again shortly after, by officers in Whitby.

DRP reminds all drivers to use extra caution in school zones, especially with the warm weather as more children will be walking to and from school.
