On Friday October 9, 2009, the Durham Regional Police Traffic Services Branch, along with the Ministry of Transportation Enforcement Section and Ontario Provincial Police, conducted Safe Vehicle Inspection Lanes in Clarington and North Durham.

Officers concentrated their enforcement on local and cottage bound traffic and kept vigilance for aggressive driving, seatbelt violations, unsafe and improperly loaded vehicles, as well as drinking and driving offences.

As a result - 121 vehicles were inspected which resulted in;
26 licence plates being removed
42 vehicles taken out of service until further repair could be completed
40 vehicle equipment chargers laid.

The Traffic Services Branch is reminding all vehicle owners to take the time and check over their vehicles and ensure it is safe and will meet all Highway Traffic Standards. This includes seatbelts, tires, brakes, overloading of vehicles, and ensure the vehicle has all the proper documentation.

Please drive with respect, take care and make certain all occupants are buckled up
