DRPS Officers will be vanvassing a Scarborough neighbourhood Dec. 22nd as the ongoing investigation into a double homicide in Pickering continues.
Several significant developments have emerged. The bodies of Harjinder Singh SANDHU, age 28 of Brampton and Puneet Singh CHHINA, age 26, of Nepean, Ontario were found in the trunk of a vehicle parked near Rosebank Road and the 4th Concession of Pickering on May 5, 2009. There were obvious signs of trauma to the bodies and both males had been reported missing earlier from Peel Region.
New information released:
1) The two victims traveled from a Brampton address to a location in the Kennedy Road/Sheppard Avenue area of Toronto on Monday May 4th, 2009 presumably to meet with an individual or individuals (red arrow on the attached map). Investigators now believe the two were murdered in the Kennedy/Sheppard area.
2) The bodies were placed in the trunk of their own vehicle and driven, along with a second vehicle, to the Rosebank/4th Concession area of Pickering (white arrow on the attached map – exact travel route unknown) on May 4th, 2009.
3) After the vehicle containing the deceased males was abandoned in north Pickering on May 4th, a cell phone belonging to one victim remained in the second vehicle, which then traveled north to Whitchurch-Stoufville, then southbound to the Kennedy/Sheppard area of Toronto (blue arrow on the attached map – exact route unknown).
4) DNA has been located and is believed to be from a suspect. Several persons have already consented to providing DNA samples and others will also be approached.
Members of the investigative team will be canvassing the area of Kennedy Road between Sheppard Avenue and Finch Avenue in Toronto Dec. 22nd. They are expected to be in the Kennedy/Havendale Road area at 11 a.m. They will be distributing and posting a flyer in an effort to elicit any tips or calls to Crime Stoppers. A copy of the flyer is attached.
The investigation continues. Anyone with new information into the murders of Mr. SANDHU or Mr. CHHINA is urged to call investigative team at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 3270. The lead investigators are Det. Mitch Martin and Det. Tom Dingwall of the DRPS Homicide Unit.
