  Final Festive R.I.D.E. Results

The seventh and final week of the Durham Regional Police Festive R.I.D.E. program has concluded and an additional 9 people were charged with various drinking and driving offences:

1250 - vehicles stopped by R.I.D.E.
59 - people given Roadside Breath Tests
11 - people received “3, 7 or 30 day suspensions” for registering a “WARN”
9 - people charged with Drinking and Driving Offences
13 - Criminal Code Charges were laid against the 20 people charged
5 - G1/2 License Holder Breach of No Alcohol Condition
1 - Drug charges laid

The Durham Regional Police Festive R.I.D.E. program has concluded for another year. Festive Season totals for 2009/2010 (with totals for Festive R.I.D.E. 2008/2009; 2007/2008 and 2006/2007 respectively, in brackets and if available):

12,989 - vehicles stopped by R.I.D.E. (10,468; 12,965; 23,655)
656 - people given Roadside Breath Tests (903; 893; 489)
127 - people received “3, 7, 30 Day Suspensions” for registering a “WARN” (168; 172; 167)
122 - people charged with Drinking and Driving Offences (152; 113; 101)
173 - Criminal Code impaired-related charges were laid against the 128 people
18 - Other Criminal Code arrests (21; 6; n/a)
66 - G1/2 License Holder Breach of No Alcohol Condition (45; 48; 10)
278 - people charged with various Highway Traffic Act offences (204; n/a; n/a)

The DRPS would like to remind all citizens that R.I.D.E. is a year-round enforcement initiative and that operating any form of vehicle, boat, off-road vehicle and/or snowmobile while impaired by alcohol or drug will not be tolerated.

Thanks to citizens who did not drink and drive during the festive season and who, after we stopped them for a roadside check, encouraged our officers to keep up their efforts.
