Members of the Durham Regional Police Service are honouring the life of past Durham Regional Police Commission Chair Robert “Bob” Attersley, who passed away on Friday, March 12.
Mr. Attersley began serving Durham on the then County Council in 1964 and was the longest-serving Mayor in Whitby. He was Deputy Reeve from 1966 to 1969, Regional Councillor from 1978 to 1980, was Chairman of the Durham Regional Police Commission from 1983 to 1991 and was an Honorary Colonel with the Ontario Regiment. Mr. Attersley also boasted an impressive ice hockey career, playing with the Oshawa Generals and winning a silver medal at the 1960 Winter Olympics with the Whitby Dunlops.
Many DRP members will pay their last respects to Mr. Attersley at his funeral today. The DRP wishes to extend their thoughts and prayers to Mr. Attersley's family and friends. He was proud to serve the Town of Whitby, Region of Durham and Canada and will be missed.
Flags at all police facilities will remain at half-staff until sunset Wednesday March 17.
