New Public Order Unit Vehicle Hits the Road

Mar 22, 2010 14:39 ET

Durham Regional Police’s Public Order Unit has a new truck on the road, thanks to funding from the Attorney General’s Civil Remedies for Illicit Activities program.

The grant of $175,000 was issued last July by Ontario Attorney General Chris Bentley and the project was tendered out in August 2009. The mobile command vehicle will allow the unit to respond faster to emergencies, improve searches for evidence at crime scenes and more effectively assist in the search for missing person.

“This vehicle will allow police to keep the families and communities of Durham Regions safe,” said AG Bentley.

The Civil Remedies for Illicit Activities (CRIA) program allows money taken out of the hands of wrongdoers to be used to support crime prevention and victim assistance programs.
