Chief's Basketball Tournament a Slam Dunk Success

Mar 30, 2010 12:53 ET

Members of the DRPS hosted the Chief’s Annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament at Durham College/UOIT on Mar. 26 for local Grade 9 and 10 students.

Sixty-five students from Pickering, Pine Ridge, J. Clarke Richardson, Ajax, Paul Dwyer and Donevan High Schools were on their game in this fun sporting event. The tournament got underway at 8:30 a.m. and right from the start, the competition was stiff.

Two teams were left standing, from Pickering and Pine Ridge High School, and they battled it out in the final game with the team from Pickering High School emerging victorious.

The tournament was created to help bring members of the DRPS and youth together in a positive setting.

Many thanks to all the sponsors, who helped make this tournament a great success: ProAction Cops & Kids, DC/UOIT, Jim's Towing, Sobeys Ajax (Westney and Kingston Rd.) Pro Image Pickering, The Whitby Trophy House and Boston Pizza.

Additional thank yous go out to all our dedicated volunteers who helped this event run smoothly and to Constables Janine Henderson and Brian Stewart for organizing the day.

Congratulations to everyone involved and DRPS can’t wait until next year’s tournament.
